COMMONLY
ASKED QUESTIONS!
-
What locations do you serve? We provide moving services across all of Colorado, along with long-distance moves throughout the United States. No matter your destination, MileWay Moving and Storage is ready to assist you in getting there.
-
How far in advance should I schedule my move?We suggest booking your move 2–4 weeks ahead to secure your preferred date. However, if you’re in a pinch, we can often accommodate last-minute moves—just give us a call!
-
Will my belongings be covered by insurance during the move?Absolutely! We provide basic coverage for your items, and if you have valuable or delicate items, we offer additional insurance options to ensure complete peace of mind.
-
Can you move large or fragile items like pianos or artwork?Yes, we specialize in handling oversized, fragile, or high-value items with great care. Our team uses specialized equipment and techniques to guarantee their safe transport.
-
What if I need storage during my move?We offer secure, climate-controlled storage solutions, whether you need temporary or long-term storage. Just let us know your needs, and we’ll customize a plan to fit.
-
When is the best time to move?Summer is typically the busiest season for moving, thanks to favorable weather and school breaks. While it’s an ideal time for a move, you’ll need to plan ahead and book well in advance, as movers are often fully booked during this period. For more flexibility with your schedule and generally lower rates, consider moving during the off-season—late fall or winter.
-
When should I request a free moving estimate? It’s best to request a free moving estimate as soon as you’ve made the decision to move. Ideally, give your moving company at least 4–6 weeks' notice before your moving day. The sooner you reach out, the more likely it is that we can secure your preferred pickup and delivery dates.
-
What’s the difference between a non-binding estimate and a binding estimate?A moving estimate gives you an approximate cost of your move, based on the services you need and a survey of your home and items. A binding estimate is a fixed-price contract, meaning the cost is set in advance based on the services you request. If additional services are needed during the move, the price may increase. A non-binding estimate is based on the actual volume of your shipment and any services provided. This estimate can change depending on the final weight or size of your shipment, and a video walkthrough of your home is typically required to calculate the volume.
-
When and how should I pay my movers? When you book your move, you’ll usually need to make a deposit, typically 30% to 35% of the total estimate, to confirm your reservation. The remainder of the payment is due when your belongings are delivered to the destination, just before the unloading process begins.
-
How can I confirm if my movers are licensed and insured? To verify your movers’ credentials, ask for their DOT (Department of Transportation) and MC (Motor Carrier) license numbers, which should be visible on their website, advertisements, and moving trucks. If not, feel free to request them directly. You can confirm these details by checking with the U.S. Department of Transportation and your local authorities. At MileWay Moving and Storage, we’re fully licensed and insured, including compliance with USDOT, MC, and Colorado PUC regulations.
-
Am I protected against loss or damage during my move?Yes, you are protected, but the level of protection depends on the valuation coverage you choose. Keep in mind that valuation is not the same as insurance—it’s the moving company’s liability. For full insurance coverage, you may need to check with your homeowner’s insurance provider to see if it covers your move. By law, licensed moving companies must offer Released Value Protection, which is included in the base cost of the move and provides minimal coverage. This means the company is liable for no more than 60 cents per pound per item. For more extensive protection, consider Full Value Protection at an additional cost. This guarantees that the moving company will either repair, replace, or compensate you for the replacement value of any lost or damaged items during the move.
